Steps to Excellence in Your Life- Part 1

Steps to Excellence in your Life -   Part 1

Today, I want to talk to you about the steps that will lead to excellence in your life. There are a lot of ways to live your life, but I believe God wants us to live a life of excellence in His Kingdom, a life that is full and abundant. Jesus came to give us a life that is more abundant.

When we get connected to the Lord Jesus Christ and become a part of His Kingdom, then we can begin to live a life of excellence. The word "excellence" means something that give special worth or value or distinction. When you come to Jesus Christ, your life takes on new meaning, worth, value and distinction. But we are not to stop at conversion. Oh no, God has something much more for us in His Kingdom. He wants you to grow spiritually and continue to live a life of excellence.

Now let's look at some steps that God has designed for us from His Word that will help us live this life of excellence:

1.) The first step is to dedicate yourself to Christ and His Kingdom. Matthew 6:33 says, "Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness..." You must make this your first and top priority. Now this is a decision that you have to make- no one can make it for you. It must come from the heart. Matthew 22:37 says, "you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." You see, the top priority must come from your heart that has God's love in it. Romans 5:5 says, "The Love of God is shed abroad in your heart by the Holy Spirit." When you make this choice then you can become a vessel of honor for God (2 Timothy 2:20-21). Some vessels are gold and silver, and others are wood and earthen. When you dedicate yourself to God, then you should do those things that please Him. Love a life of faith. Hebrews 11:6 says, "But without faith it is imporssible to please Him," Hebrews 10:38 says, "The just shall live by faith, but if anyone draws back, my soul has no pleasure in him." 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, "Walk by faith and not by sight." Commit yourself to a life of prayer. This is the foundation for success in every Christian endeavor; Jesus is our example of one who prayed.

2.) Get a vision for your life. (Proverbs 29:18). People that have no vision or purpose go in may different directions. Get a vision for your life and allow God to help lead you in that vision. (Proverbs 3:5-6) Trust in God and go with His wisdom. If you lack wisdom then ask God for wisdom. (James 1:5-7) God gives wisdom liberally. Proverbs 4:7-8 says, "Wisdom is the principle thing, Get wisdom." Once you know your purpose and the plan that God has given you, don't hesitate to step out in faith. Oh, let me tell you, the devil will be there to try and stop you, but don't allow fear, doubt, and unbelief to stop you. Remember that Greater one lives on the inside of you and you will prevail. (1 John 4:4) (Romans 8:31). God is on your side to help you to live a life of excellence.

3.) The third step and one that is so vital is to follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit. To follow His leading, you must spend time with Him so you can recognize His leading. You must be attuned to His voice. John 16:13 says, "...when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth..." The truth is God's Word, or the Bible. The Holy Spirit will lead and guide you into the truth of God's Word. He will open and reveal the Word to you. From this He will lead you. Now the Holy Spirit will lead or guide you through the "inner unction" of the Holy Spirit. In other words, He will impress upon your born again spirit to "do this", or "do that". An example is found in Romans 8:16: "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God."

Let's look at another example with the Apostle Paul: Acts 16:6-7 says, "...They were forbidden to preach the Word in Asia...then they tried to go to Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them." In these passages we see the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Another way the Holy Spirit will lead you is through the voice of the conscience. A good example is found in 1 Corinthians 11:28: "But let a man examine himself..." Verse 31 says, "For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged." Here the Holy Spirit leads you through the "voice of the conscience" to confess and repent before God. (1 John 1:9) This purging and cleansing on a daily basis will help you live a life of excellence.

Just begin to rely on the leadership of the Holy Spirit and not your own mind. The key to knowing if it is the Holy Spirit that is leading is inner peace. (Colossians 3:15) If it's God who is leading your life and helping you to make decisions then there will always be peace and joy on the inside. If there is no peace, or if there is strife or uneasiness, then it may not be God who is leading. Don't just rely on your own mind and understanding. Don't just rely on people. Seek God and His leadership.

     Let's review:

1.) Dedicate yourself to Jesus Christ. Make him and His kingdom your top priority.

2.) Get a vision for your life. Trust in God. Get and seek His wisdom. Live a life of faith.

3.) Follow the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

Now these steps are only half of the steps that I will present to help you live a life of excellence (worth, value, and distinction).

I will finish the next three steps on the next session.
