Revival Fire

Acts 1:8 - The Bible says you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come "upon" you. "Upon" is from the Greek word "Epi". This is the "upon" experience as opposed to the "in" experience. "Upon" & "In" are two different experiences of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:1-4 - The Holy Spirit came upon them, the 120 ,and sat upon them and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit Fire. Acts 8:14-17 - Samaria had received the word of God. Luke 24:49 and Acts 1:5 Jesus was telling them the experience was coming. The promise of the Father. Joel 2:24-32 - I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh - "afterward" - after what? The resurrection of Jesus.

Well on the day of Pentecost Peter preaches under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:16-18 - Later Peter tells how the Holy Spirit came upon the Gentiles. Acts 11:15-18 - All through the church age God has poured out His Holy Spirit on millions of believers. He has had revival fires when something was going on in the world that was coming against His church.

Let's look at the prophecy in Hosea 6:1-3. This prophecy is for Israel but it affects the church also. "He will come to us like the former and latter rain to the earth." The former rain was the outpouring on the Day of Pentecost and extended up to 400 A.D. From 400 A.D. to 1500 A.D. were the dark ages of church history. There was a language barrier for the people. The Bible was written in Latin and most people couldn't read it. They were ignorant of the word of God and the Spirit was not moving. Thus, the "Dark Ages".

But would raise up these for His time to bust out of the Dark Ages: John Wycliffe began to translate the Bible into English 1294 A.D. He taught the truth of God's word. Following him was John Hus and Myles Coverdale and others. Their writing affected Martin Luther who started the Protestant Reformation in 1519. Other reformers began to get the Bible in English: William Tyndale, Erasmus, John Colet and John Gutenberg. Then came the Gutenberg printing press in 1450.

In the 1730's God began to pour His spirit out again with John Wesley, George Witfield, Jonathan Edwards and others - thus began the "latter rain" outpouring. This was the 1st Great Awakening. Then in the 1800's other revivalist like Charles Finney and Spurgion came on the scene. Revival Fires started again thus was the 2nd Great Awakening up to the time of the Civil War.

Welch Revivals 1859-1904. In 1859 the world was in a change with the Railroad, telegraph and Darwinism coming on the scene. Many ante Bible heresies were being pronounced. So God would act.

In 1859 God used Thomas C. Edward, Daniel Morgan, and Humphrey Jones to preach the outpouring of power. He started in England at the all Saints Parrish Hall. Hundreds were filled with the Holy Spirit. In their meeting came Smith Wigglesworth and his wife Bonnie. She was part of the Salvation Army. From this revival another movement started in Wales with Evan Roberts in 1904. Wales was in a coal mining county. Evans Roberts and this move changed the culture of Wales.

Then in the 1900's came another great outpouring the Azusa Street Revival with WM Seymore and Charles Parham started all of this in Topeka Kansas out of this Revival came John G. Lake, D.L. Moody and many others. This Revival went around the world and changed the culture of the Christian Church. 600 million people changed. It all happened in 1906 at the Apostolic Faith and Gospel Mission.

Then in 1948 God sent the Great Healing Ministry. Oral Roberts, T.L. Osborn, Ken Hagen, AA Allen, Kathryn Kuhlman, Amy McPherson, Gordon Lindsey and many others.

Today, I believe by the Holy Spirit, we are ready for another great outpouring. Revivals, are God sent. They bring about extraordinary change. They bring people to a point of brokenness and the Holy Spirit brings a Holy Fire Passion. There will be a greater hunger for God's Word and for serving God. Jeremiah 17:4 "Heal me O Lord and I shall be healed. . ."

There will be a passion to assemble in church and feel the presence of God. There will be a greater awareness of God's spirit and power.

The Holy Spirit cleanses - its fire burns off the impurities such as sin, unforgiveness, bitterness, critical spirits and apathy.

So today Revival all starts with "prayer" and "fasting" and a desire for revival. The church holds the keys to revival. I challenge you to do your part to bring about a "heaven sent revival" like we have heard about before. Remember there is nothing too difficult for God. Jeremiah 32:17 V22. He can and will send a Revival in the land if we will earnestly desire it. Oh, Lord send Revival Fire!!!
