Rekindle the Passion

Do you remember when you first got saved and filled with the Holy Spirit? Remember when the Holy Spirit began to open up God’s Word to you? You would get so excited about the things of God. Remember when you could hardly wait to read the next chapter or hear the next teaching tape. There was only one word to describe you, “hot”. Your born again spirit was on fire for God.

When I first began to hear the message on faith, I was like that. I was so on fire that nothing else in the world really interested me. Linda and I would go anywhere we could hear the Word of faith. We were hungry to find out everything God had promised us in His Word.

But if we are not careful, we can get so busy with the things of the church and everyday life that the fire can go to coals with very little “flicker”. You can lose your enthusiasm. We all need to “rekindle the passion”. Passion means: Great Enthusiasm! a powerful feeling, fervor, fire, and zeal. We all need to get back to having passion for the things of God. A passion for His Word, for the Church, for being a witness, and for expanding God’s Kingdom. Well, you might ask, how do I do this again? I want to give you some things you can do to rekindle the passion.

James 4:8 says “draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” That means you need to spend time with Him. In order for you to do that, you will have to drop the things that are stealing you time from reading His Word. We call them “time thieves”. The devil will send things your way to steal your time from God. Ps 37:4 says “delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Delight means: “to take or give great pleasure or joy”. Delight yourself in God’s Words. Become diligent about reading and studying His Word again. If you will give more of your attention to the things of God, soon your desire and your passion will increase. Your desire will follow your attention.

Let’s look at Prov 4:20-24. “My Son gave attention to my words. Incline your ear to my sayings. V21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart. V22 For they are life to those who find them and health (medicine) to all their flesh. V23 Keep your heart (guard and protect it) with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life. V24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth and put perverse lips far from you.” Have a positive, faith-filled confession of faith.

The more you attend to something the more your desire is drawn to give attention to that thing! The same thing will happen in the natural realm. Whether it be, running or golf or fishing, hunting or cooking or sewing. Your desire gets stronger and stronger the more you do these things. The same will happen in the Spirit realm. Your soul’s desire will follow whatever you spend your time doing. Start building yourself up by praying in the Holy Spirit. Jude 20. Next, get along with God. I mean “alone”. Talk with Him and allow the Holy Spirit to come and rest upon you. Eph 5:18 “Be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Eph 3:19-20 “Be filled with all the fullness of God.” Believe and act upon everything God says to you. As you’re obedient to His voice, you will see him work through you. Phil 2:13. You will see the promise of God work for you. Phil 4:13, “you can do all things through Jesus Christ.” II Corinth 1:20. Before long that flicker that has been wavering in your spirit will grow again into an all-consuming fire for God!

Amen!
