Avoiding Deception

Avoiding Deception

We are told in the Word of God to watch out for decption in these last days.

Jesus said in Matthew 24:4-5, "Take heed that no one deceives you.  For many will come in My name saying, 'I am the Christ, and will deceive many.'"

The deception of these last days is false religion.  Many false gods and religions have come on the scene during the church age.  They say they all  point to God, but they are deceived themselves by the devil.

1 John 5:18 says, "We know we are of God and the whole world lies under the sway (deception) of the wicked one."

In Revelation 20:3 when the devil is cast into the bottomless pit and shut him up and put a seal on him so that he should "deceive" the nations no more. . ."

Deception is one of the main tactics that the devil uses to entice people to follow him.

I see it all the time now in the media that all religions are basically the same.  We all worship the same God and that whatever path we choose; we will all end up in heaven.

You see, that is the deception.  The fact is we do not all worship the same God.  And unless you accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you will not get to heaven and see God.

John 14:6 says, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Me (My name)."

Most people in the world today do not have enough knowledge of God's Word to know the difference and they are destroyed eternally because of it.  Hosea 4:6 says, ""People are destroyed for lack of knowledge. . ."

The Apostle Paul gives the church a lot of information on how to avoid getting deceived.  In Acts 20:28-32 Paul tells us to watch, to be vigilant.  There will be those in the body of Christ who will try to deceive the flock.  They speak perverse or deceitful things.

Examples:

     1.  Saying that the blood of Jesus and His sacrifice is not important denying the atonement of Christ.

     2.  Saying that Jesus was not really God.  He was a good man anda prophet only.

     3.  Saying that Jesus really was not a Jew and that there is nothing special about he Jewish people.  Replacement Theory

     4.  Saying you must have works to add to your religion in order to be saved.

     5.  Give me your money and I will see to it that you receive thousands of dollars in return as if they were in control and not           God.

These deceivers draw people to themselves and not to Christ.  It is more about what they do and themselves than about the Word of God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let's look at some of the warnings the Apostle Paul gave to the "last days' church."

1 Timothy 4:1 - "Some will depart from the faith (Christianity) giving heed to "deceiving spirits" and doctrines of demons."  These are those who walk away from their Christain roots and embrace Islam, Mormonism, Jehovah Witness and other cults.

1 Timothy 6:3-5 - "Avoid those who are prideful and speak empty and words and cuse strife, disputes and arguments."  I have seen people led away into deception because of this promise of empty words.  What about the deception that there is something better on the mountain - to be that drink of alcohol, do that drug, still that money, or go after that man or woman.  These are all a deception to bring upon you.

Let's look at some practical ways to avoid deception:

     1.  Stay informed concerning the Word of God.  Stay in the Word yourself and keep yourself built up in the Word (Acts 20:32)  Always line up what you hear and judge it with the Word of God.  Don't oopen the door to sin.  It lives at the door but don't let it in.

     2.  Exercise godliness - 1 Timothy 4:7.  Stay in prayer and allow the Holy Spirit to speak and witness to you.

     3.  Get connected to a good Word Church where you are taught the Word of God and where you are encouraged to study and learn on your own.  Then you will not have to rely on someone else.  Don't just follow certain procedures and evangelist.  1 Corthinthians 3:22-23 - Judge what you hear with the word of God.

     4.  Keep your spiritual eyes open.  1 Thessalonians 5:4-5 says the Spirit enlightens you to the truth.  John 16:13-14      says, "He will guide you into all truth. . . He will glorify Me and He will take what is mine and give it to you."

God is author of all truth.  Devine Truth is available to us in God's Word and in the Bible, but before that Truth can become a reality to us, deception must be destroyed and awarded.  All ungodly imaginations, human reasoning against God's word must be cast down.  Every thought must become captive to the obedience of Christ.  Once this happens we will know the truth as the truth will set us free, from our struggles to know the truth.  God's word is Absolute Truth.  Amen!!
